Drawing Visitors To Your Site By Increasing Your Page Ranking

by Eric Menzies

Many people who are using websites to promote their business are searching for the fastest way to get the highest page rank possible. In some ways it's a distant and nearly unobtainable goal for internet marketers. Maybe you already know this, but Google assigns a page rank number to a web page that indicates how high that page will be placed in search results. The algorithm is secret. But it's important to understand that the page rank number is not the only factor in ranking search results.

Some people think that viewing a Google page rank can tell them the value of a web site. Actually, the Google rank can be as much as several months out of date. Many things may have changed since that number was recorded. In addition, you have to use a special type of browser to be able to see the ranking number, or go to a special web site that keeps track of these things by url. In summary, the site's page ranking is probably not a very accurate reflection of the value of a web page.

For all of these problems, page rank is still the most visible way of assessing Google's way of ranking its search results. I did say page rank, not site rank; each page on each website largely stands alone, although there may be a reputation effect that influences the rank of all pages on one site. It is known that the rank of any page is influenced by the rank of all pages on the same site that link to that page.

Page ranking is a popular way of comparing one web site to another. It is based on the number of people who have put a link to your web site on their web site. If you have a lot of people linking to your site, then your page rank is supposed to be higher. And if those people have high page ranks, this is also supposed to give you a higher number. Page ranking seems to be simply an indication of how many people you can get to link to your site, and not any indicator of the value of your site.

You can increase the page ranking on your web site quickly. What you need to do is to get other people with good sites to link to your page. You can make agreements with other sites to do reciprocal linking, you can write comments on people's blogs and include a link to your website, and you can publish articles that contain your site's url.
