Web Strategy: Mutual Links And Other Concepts

by Sean Dilea

When a decision is made to create a new business in this modern connected era, it is almost a sure thing that the internet will play a role, and possibly a very profound one. Nothing can reach as many people and be as reliably cost effective as a wise web strategy for sales, advertising and even operations.

Marketing involves two basic elements; having a product or service that consumers desire to purchase, and having a way to deliver that product or service. The means of delivering can vary, such as using the web, or producing the product in a factory, a cottage industry, or through the use of experts. What matters most is people desire to buy into the product or service.

Finding a niche is a very important web strategy for marketing that helps you to succeed by offering a product or service that appeals directly to a small, focused segment of the population. This niche can be anything unique, from selling specially designed soft toys to parents of children with brittle bone syndrome to inventing a tattoo that is dissolved by the body in a few years for college students. What is important is to narrowly define the target group that needs or wants your product, and to find a way to make them aware of the product's existence.

"What" to promote, "who" will need or want it, and "how" to accomplish the plan are important components to web marketing. A business plan with a predetermined budget is necessary to determine how much money can be spent on implementing the campaign. Many might choose automated pop up ads that are displayed on relevant sites with related content. However, these ads are not enough by themselves.

A particularly cost effective approach is mutual linking with other websites which display related merchandise or services but not those with which you are in direct competition. Professional associations and trade associations may be of assistance with this form of online marketing. And since their membership fees are almost always tax deductible, this should not prove to be a major financial hit.

Utilizing the following strategies can aid in increasing your web site's traffic. Make sure the content is related to your marketing area. Check to make sure the information is presented in a fashion that is clear and informative. Utilizing keywords in your content that help direct potential customers to your site through internet searches is a very popular web marketing strategy right now, but you must take care to use keywords in a manner consistent with the rest of your site, so that only your desired focus audience is targeted.

You have to have enough traffic for an effective web strategy, but you need to be sure it is good traffic. Think of it as an open house where visitors have been recruited from agents who handle the area and price range. They would be realistic potential buyers, but crowd recruited by putting flyers on every car in a mega mall might get people just interested in the free coffee and cookies. Use strategies like keyword selection, but use them wisely and considerately.
