Marketing Plan - Define A Mission Statement
Any successful company, whether online or conventional, requires a marketing plan to succeed. Your marketing strategy should fit your company's needs, whatever they are, and needs to be carefully and thoroughly planned and executed to be successful.
A marketing plan can be defined as a delineation of the concept being marketed, the target audience, goals for a specified time period and the actions needed to achieve the goals. Good plans will also include ways to assess how well goal are being met so that plans can be adjusted if needed. A marketing plan may be for a relatively short period of a year, possibly less for a special campaign, or may be long range for five or ten years.
First, your company needs a mission statement that states what it offers the world and gives the company a sense of identity. Such a mission statement can help focus your company's marketing strategy, as well as produce a sentence or phrase by which potential customers can remember you.
Then look at what people out there could become your customers in the future. Also define who your existing clients are, and develop a method for maintaining that client base and expanding it. Advertising campaigns geared toward a target audience, methods of increasing web traffic, or utilizing articles and promotions are all ways you could do that. Consider collaborating with other businesses to set up links to each other.
After this, create a marketing plan and set a time period for when you want these goals to occur. A marketing plan involves setting goals for yourself. This makes it easier to see your progress, or lack of it. When you set a goal, you know where you are and where you want to go. A goal encourages you to "reach for the stars".
The last thing to do is develop a plan for actual execution of your goals. Some of the many things that this may entail are as follows: sales training, sending key staff through effective sales and management technique courses, possibly going through these courses yourself, in house training, and development of incentive programs for both employees and customers. Promotions can be run that would offer special items or discounts to help attract new customers also.
Any company needs to ensure that its goals are being met and to adapt when its original plans don't work. Also, a company requires the flexibility to adopt strategies that have been successful. This may require a company to purchase software to evaluate its performance, or hire outside evaluators. For a company, planning and execution are the difference between profitability and bankruptcy. Thus, a marketing plan is an absolute necessity if a business is to survive.
